Honeycutt drives to North Wilkesboro race win and CARS Tour PLM title

Bryson Lopez Racing to Compete on All-American 400 Weekend at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway

NORTH WILKESBORO, N.C. (10/22/24) – On a Saturday night high in attrition, Kaden Honeycutt kept his nose clean at North Wilkesboro Speedway to win the zMAX CARS Tour Pro Late Model race and division championship with the Bryson Lopez Racing (BLR) piloting the No. 47 Leeboy / Atlanta Paving & Concrete Construction Chevrolet SS Pro Late Model.

Honeycutt repelled late challenges from T.J. DeCaire and Tristan McKee to secure his first CARS Tour championship and the $5,000 payday.

“This means so much for me and my family,” an emotional Honeycutt said. “Just the opportunity that I got from Ernie Lopez and Dustin Bryson to race this car and to believe in me. A lot of people have done so much for me and I can’t thank them enough. To win here at North Wilkesboro and get the championship at the same time is so unbelievably cool. The CARS Tour has ignited my career since 2021. The series will continue to get better, especially with the new staff. It’s definitely going to go a long way.”

Honeycutt entered the weekend at the historic 0.625-mile oval in Wilkes County, North Carolina, second in the standings, with Spencer Davis holding a slim points advantage. Honeycutt qualified second in the 24-car field and jumped out to an early lead in the 100-lap Pro Late Model portion of the ECMD 125. Davis was caught up in an early accident, putting Honeycutt in control of both the race and the drivers' championship.

He led until the 80th circuit, when he was nudged out of the preferred groove by Tristan McKee in turn four and slipped to third just before a competition caution.

On the restart, leader McKee and Giovanni Ruggiero tangled in turn two, and race control deemed front-row starter Caden Kvapil had launched early, putting him at the rear of the field.

Honeycutt regained the top spot with 20 laps left and led the rest of the way, holding off the hard-charging T.J. DeCaire by a narrow margin at the checkered flag. Cameron Bolin, Jimmy Renfrew Jr. and Max Reaves rounded out the top five.

The $5,000 win was Honeycutt’s second consecutive Pro Late Model triumph with Bryson Lopez Racing and his third series victory overall in 2024. After joining BLR at Altamahaw, North Carolina’s Ace Speedway in August, Honeycutt finished every CARS Tour Pro Late Model race fourth or better.

BLR’s Brandon Lopez also looked to end his season strong at North Wilkesboro in his No. 6 Crystal Creek Recycling Chevrolet SS. He moved forward early from his 12th-place starting position in the Pro Late Model race, however, when a competitor had a mechanical failure in front of him in turn four, Lopez was caught up in the fluid and made hard contact with the inside wall. His night ended after just 11 laps and he was relegated to a 22nd-place finish to end his first CARS Tour campaign.
